Zhang Zhehan, who just held a fan meeting in Australia in late July, will return to his fans with his new album “The Scavenger.” In addition to his remarkable musical works, Zhang Zhehan, who majored in musical theater at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, has also made significant contributions to film and television. His documentary “August,” which he directed, swept the ARFF International Film Festival Global Awards and won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2024 Red Movie Awards. After a four-month hiatus, Zhang Zhehan returns as a singer to present a brand new song. “90s” will premiere on Canada’s Fairchild Radio station FM947 on September 30, offering fans a wild yet elegant perspective on the world.

“90s” is a retro-inspired electronic dance track that feels like a ride through a dreamlike tunnel, offering glimpses of a free and wild era that belongs to both you and me. Life is a one-way street, but through singing, we are fortunate enough to be granted another chance. After the first recording, Zhang Zhehan wasn’t fully satisfied. Drawing from his own imagination and experiences, he eventually infused his personal understanding and emotions into the lyrics, creating a deeply moving piece.

When asked how he views the past, he shared, “The past is precious, but only by moving forward can new stories be written. As long as we don’t make the same mistakes along the way, that’s something good.” Though the past is irreversible, it flows through every tranquil and endless day and night, coursing through our veins, shaping our bones, and becoming the foundation of who we are today.

As Zhang Zhehan’s third solo album, “The Scavenger” seems less “bright.” The visual presentation of the album predominantly uses dark tones and shadowy lighting, evoking a mysterious and thought-provoking atmosphere. Themes of desolation and loss, castles and ruins, decay and chaos, classic and modern elements come together like long-forgotten, dusty stories, waiting to be explored and reopened.
